Strathmore Energy Research Centre (SERC) has been \u00a0supported by the National Council for Science and Technology- NCST and been awarded\u00a0a Kshs. 5 million grant.<\/p>\n

\n

The funds are\u00a0earmarked for the facilitation of \u00a0a Kerosene Free Kenya pilot project in a selected rural area of about 500 homes in which Solar Home systems will replace the traditional kerosene lamps. The success of this pilot project will assist the stakeholders in rolling out solar home systems on a wider scale for the whole country. The brief event was held at the NCST offices with the CEO of NEST, Prof. A. Abdulrazak \u00a0and Prof . Izael da Silva of Strathmore University.<\/p>\n

\n

The funds will be used in research, awareness creation, purchase of solar home systems, close monitoring of the project throughout its research period and other logistics necessary to ensure successful implementation.\u00a0This\u00a0research project seeks to also ways to assist\u00a0entrepreneurs and\u00a0businesses involved in importing\/manufacturing and distribution of solar lamps.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

SERC \u2013 Strathmore Energy Research Centre – an initiative of Prof. Izael da Silva, DVC Academic affairs Strathmore University, is mandated to carry out research, training and actual projects on renewable energy \u2013 solar, wind, biogas and biodiesel. SERC has partners that include : UNIDO –\u00a0United Nation Industrial Development Organization, KIRDI Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute, GIZ,\u00a0National council for Science and Technology \u2013 NCST, Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources \u2013 MEMR, Ministry of Energy \u2013 MoE and the Brazilian Embassy<\/p>\n
