Multi-talented Will Smith has a new role in the works.
According to Ebony, actor Will Smith, 50, will star as Richard Williams, father of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams, in an upcoming biopic titled “King Richard”. The project will highlight the plight of the 77-year-old Louisiana, native. While raising his family in Compton, California, Williams drafted a 78-page plan for his daughters’ professional careers as tennis players, reported Ebony.
According to Variety, the film, based on a script by Zach Baylin, will center on Richard Williams overcoming hardship, skepticism, controversy, and his own troubled past to instruct his daughters, starting when they were four years old on the tennis court despite not having a background in tennis.
Serena, 37, is a mother to toddler Olympia and has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, starting with the US Open in 1999. Venus, 38, has seven Grand Slam singles, starting with Wimbledon in 2000. The sisters have combined for 14 Grand Slam doubles championships.
The father of three and musician, Will Smith is currently filming the Bad Boys 3 and is slated to star as Genie in the upcoming live-action Aladdin.
