How has this job improved your professional skill set?
By everyday actually coming in and researching those loopholes in the market, I make myself better. I look at other directors, and producers – to get a sense of budgeting etc. So I get to learn business side and professional side of the field I am in. I was part of an animation staff at one point, so I knew how to hit deadlines and how to properly lay out the book. But now, I also need to figure out how to get advertisement on a higher level.
What would be the next logical career step for you based on your experience in this position?
If anything – the film I’m working on will probably take 1-2 years. I want when it’s released that there is 5-6 weeks of publication already out.
Overall though, most important is strengthening the comic book company and getting into an animation series. When I have more people, I can direct more – one thing will feed the other and everyone is happy.
What advice do you have for job seekers about how to apply for a role in your field?
I think when we are making a movie, we will do a public call – I would like someone with flexibility in style and speed.
Let’s say your drawing style is a certain way – I hire you and I need you to match my technique with your own personal style/flair. Most successful guys have that flexibility. They could work anywhere in the world. People who can’t do that are boxed in and won’t move forward. That person will only be called when that style is needed and soon they won’t be needed anymore.
