6. Electrical Engineer
This particular post comes with a broad variety of slots within different organisations. By definition, anyone in this field can do any and all of the above jobs based on their level of expertise. And every once in a while, there are related careers available in companies like Kenya Power, Penelly Construction Engineering Ltd or the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO). Responsibilities would include strategic planning and economic analyses based on the company’s power production system.
7. Planning Engineer
This slot is often reserved for anyone who qualifies to hold a managerial position. Nevertheless, a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering is required. You can get such a post in any telecommunications firm, power company or field-related organisation. Your responsibilities would include managing, coordinating and executing projects for your company.
9. Board Member
Given time, experience and an excellent performance record, someone with an Electrical Engineering Degree can rise through the ranks and become a Company Director. KenGen Non-Executive Director, Musa Ndeto certainly did it; and it only took him 39 years to get there. NIC Bank’s Director of Technologies, Chege Thumbi also did it and currently has over 20-years experience in the field. You are assured of a six figure salary inching close to a million in salary if you get to this position.
10. Managing Director and CEO
Not many Managing Directors get the job simply because they hold a Degree in the field of electrical engineering. However, Kenya Power MD, Joseph Njoroge used his to secure this position in the firm. Of course, he buffered his Degree with a Masters in Business Administration as well as 26 years of experience.
Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Chief Executive, Peter Mwangi also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi. According to his NSE profile, he was previously the Managing Director for Centum Investment; the largest publicly quoted Investment Company in East Africa.
