A South Korean cafe has installed a robot barista to help maintain social distancing and protect employees and patrons.
The robotic barista removes the need for human staff at the cafe in the city of Daejeon and has been hailed as a “courteous and swift” alternative.
The device makes its way to customers with in-built technology and can pick up 60 different types of hot drink to give to guests. The robot follows South Korea’s coronavirus restrictions, which have been eased into “distancing in daily life” from strict lock down rules.
The cyborg was developed by Vision Semicon, who believe that robots can help people maintain social distancing in public.
Lee Dong-bae, the company’s director of research, said: “Our system needs no input from people from order to delivery, and tables were sparsely arranged to ensure smooth movements of the robots, which fits will with the current no contact and distancing campaign.”
