Netflix is ushering us into the world of Michelle Obama following the release of the trailer for ‘Becoming.’
The upcoming documentary is about the former First Lady’s 34-city tour around the country following the release of her 2018 bestselling memoir, ‘Becoming.’
If the trailer is any indication, the anticipated documentary will also delve into Obama’s past, including rare glimpses at her childhood and life before the White House.
“This is totally me, unplugged, for the first time,” Obama says in voiceover.
The trailer includes several moments with Obama’s family, including big brother Craig Robinson, mother Marian Shields Robinson, First Husband Barack Obama, First Kids Malia and Sasha Obama.
‘Becoming’ isn’t just a revealing documentary about Obama’s personal life. It’s also about how Obama wants to influence and inspire the next generation of girls and young women. The trailer is awash in girl power synergy, set to Alicia Keys’ ‘Girl on Fire.’
During the tour, Obama met hundreds of thousands of girls, both through the big arena talks and small community gatherings which saw the former First Lady hosting intimate talks with girls all across the country, inspiring them to chase their dreams.
“As my mother would say, Michelle and Barack Obama aren’t special,” Mrs Obama says. “There are millions of Baracks and Michelle Obamas all over the world.”
This documentary is the third major collaboration between Netflix and the Obamas, via their production company Higher Ground. Previously, they’ve released the Oscar-winning documentary ‘American Factory’ and the inspiring ‘Crip Camp’ on the streaming site.
‘Becoming’ will debut on Netflix on Wednesday, May 6th 2020.
