USIU lose Bball finals, Nairobi Aviation clinch division one

United States International University (USIU) men’s basketball team narrowly lost game three to Co-operative Bank in the final series to effectively allow the bankers retain the premier league cup.

USIU Tigers put up a brave fight after a strong start in game one of the play-offs. But the bankers rallied back in game two, winning 72-60 on Saturday to level the series. The Sunday decider proved a hard nut to crack for the students as Co-op used their experience to overcome the Tigers 77-63.

USIU Tigers have reached the finals for the first time in the Kenya Basketball Federation premier league history where the ladies team (Flame) also lost narrowly to Eagles in the final. The men’s final was equally balanced in the first and second quarter but the Tigers lost their momentum in the third and fourth quarter.

Nairobi Aviation clinched the Division One league title with a 2-1 overall win over Nakuru Club. Coming to the final match on a series tie, Aviation got the better of the visiting side winning game three 64-61.
