USIU awards record graduating class as VC announces research funding

Former finance minister Mr. Amos Kimunya graduated top of his Global Executive MBA class

United States International University – Africa held its graduation on Saturday 23rd August where a record 1313 graduands were awarded undergraduate and graduate degrees in 18 programs.

Speaking at the commencement ceremony, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Freida Brown noted that the rising status of the African continent requires graduates with the international orientation and the high quality education to meet the needs of fast – growing economies.

Prof. Brown also underlined the partnerships the university has forged through its faculty with the public sector and universities from around the world especially the US$32 000 in research grants received through the University of California –Berkeley.

The university continues to be a technology leader moving core educational services to the cloud, enabling students to access services in the library, on e-platforms with almost round-the-clock helpdesk support systems.

USIU-Africa has created countless extracurricular opportunities within the university, through study abroad and exchange partnerships and mentorships from over 10 000 alumni living around the world.

This was echoed by Cabinet Secretary for Education Jacob Kaimenyi stating that as a beneficiary of the institution, he understands USIU – Africa stands out due to its elected student government and student’s access to psychological and career counseling.

Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and the Arts Mr.Hassan Wario, also spoke about the need for continuous learning.

“We are in a world that is changing very rapidly and your skills need to be updated from time to time, the market is very volatile and dynamic and very accessible to all, making continuous learning as well as heightened competition necessary.”

Former finance minister Mr. Amos Kimunya who graduated top of his class with a 4.0 GPA in Global Executive MBA was among graduands from Mexico, Malaysia, Germany, Australia and 27 other countries.
