Students from the University of Nairobi, Technical University of Kenya and Kabianga may have received the same memo this morning as they took their grievances to the streets at about the same time. SONU Chairman Babu Owino led demonstrations against HELB for delaying student loans. The students camped at Anniversary Towers, University way, demanding to be addressed by HELB CEO. Meanwhile, Technical University of Kenya students joined their UoN comrades on University Way and the demo went downhill after police repelled the students and had to use tear gas to disperse the students.
In Kericho, Kabianga University has been indefinitely closed after students blockaded the main road leading to the university and hours of confrontation between the students and police. The students are demonstrating against what they term police brutality, poor state of the roads and mismanagement of the university.
Meanwhile, students of MMU have been notified to return to the University with Sh5000 for the Sh12M damages the caused a week ago.
