Rioting University of Nairobi students have kicked off protests which have inconvenienced motorists using roads around the main university in the CBD.
Heavily armed ant-riot police officers are battling to control the situation mainly affecting sections of Uhuru Highway, University Way and other nearby roads as the students protests over alleged rigging of the weekend union elections.
The protests are being organised by a group of students who lost in the union elections, and are now accusing the incumbent chairman Babu Owino of rigging himself back.
Over the weekend, more than 30 students were arrested after they turned violent following claims that the election was marred by malpractices.
