Over 120 students from all over the world will be converging in Paris to attend the 2014 TOTAL Summer School.  Christine Njiru, a third year student from the University of Nairobi, School of Business has been selected to attend this programme fully paid for by Total Kenya Limited.

She was chosen through a competitive and open process for students about to start their final year of study before graduation. Tests included communication skills and participants have to be intellectually curious and self-starters, committed, disciplined, hard-working and respectful of other cultures.

The Total Summer School brings together high potential students to take part in a week-long opportunity to discuss major energy issues and challenges alongside key managers and experts from business, science and research. The programme is in its 9th year.

Christine received her scholarship package from Ada Eze, the Total Kenya Managing Director and Prof.Henry Mutoro, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs at the University of Nairobi during a ceremony held at the Vice Chancellor’s office.

“This is part of an on-going partnership between Total Kenya Limited and University of Nairobi resulting from a Memorandum of Understanding signed between our organisations in 2012 to create positive outcomes in the educational opportunities for young people,” said Ada Eze the Managing Director of Total Kenya.

“The Summer School programme will focus on key energy issues and challenges including trends in world energy supply and demand, the future of energy (oil, gas, renewable energy and other options), the fight against climate change and corporate social responsibility.”

”The aim is to have an overview of the strategic and management challenges facing leading international companies and for the participants to contribute actively on the key challenges of the energy world.”

An elated Christine Njiru said she was humbled by the opportunity to represent the country.

“It is my first time out of the country and I have heard so much about Paris. I am looking forward to learning as much as I can about energy and sharing information with young people from other parts of the world. I am very grateful to Total Kenya and the University of Nairobi for offering me this chance.”
