University launches course on ‘wasting time on the internet’

Internet users

An interesting new course being offered by the University of Pennsylvania, Department of English will explore the art of wasting time on the internet. The course will be taught by Professor Kenneth Goldsmith and will begin early 2015.

The internet is one of the biggest distractions for students and employees with social media and YouTube contributing the lion’s share of time-killers. The course will offer reading material on the internet as opposed to regular assignments. The students, mostly English majors and Creative Writing majors, will delve into the internet’s power as the ultimate time waster.

“Using our laptops and a wifi connection as our only materials, this class will focus on the alchemical recuperation of aimless surfing into substantial works of literature. Students will be required to stare at the screen for three hours, only interacting through chat rooms, bots, social media and listservs,” states the course brief.

Internet has become a major contributor to learning with colleges opening up new horizons with E-learning as well as developing more informative courses that relate with new world of students.
