The teachers’ strike continues on, a month after it began. With lecturers seeking the fulfillment of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, students remain untaught and the syllabus remains untouched as we approach the second week of the month.

There are several universities that have felt the effects more than others with Laikipia University releasing a public statement informing students on the closure of the institution indefinitely. According to the letter issued by the Office of the Registrar, the letter stated: “The University senate has resolved that the university is closed with immediate effect as there is no teaching or academic activity going on at the moment, due to the prolonged staff strike by the academic staff.”

Laikipia University is not the only university to buckle under the pressures of the strike as Karatina University also followed suit with others said to join the growing list of institutions.
