Twitter users are calling the bluff on white privilege and hypocrisy after an altercation pitting race car drivers Ty Gibbs and Sam Mayer.
During the Xfinity Series in Martinsville, Gibbs punched Mayer after an apparent disagreement. This comes just about two weeks after Will Smith-Chris Rock Oscars slap incident, but Titter feels the backlash is way less with the race incident.
“I talked to Sam. I was frustrated. I was like, ‘What are you doing?,’ when we got drove in the fence. We were kind of shoved a little bit and I turned away. When I got grabbed and kind of pulled, that just led up to that moment. It just built up, built up, built up and I snapped and that’s just part of it. Hopefully, I learn from it,” Says Gibbs.
Following the backlash and subsequent Will Smith ban at the Oscars, social media users are up in arms at what they feel is white privilege as there is less flack against the drivers’ physical tiff.
