Trevor Noah: 10 Things You Need To Know About Him

1. HE’S BEEN ON THE DAILY SHOW BEFORE

Trevor has already made three appearances on the show where he poked fun at American racism, news and chess tournaments. He seems pretty at ease on this side of the desk, which is a good start.

2. HE SPEAKS EIGHT LANGUAGES

He grew up in Soweto, to a South African mother and Swiss father, and speaks eight languages: English, German, and six native South African languages, including one which is mainly clicking. (With his mouth. Not on Google Translate like you would have to do.)

3. HE BROKE THE LAW THE SECOND HE WAS BORN

Trevor was born in apartheid-era South Africa to a black mother and white father, a relationship that was illegal at the time: “They got together and they had me, which was illegal. I was born a crime.”

4. HE’S NOT AFRAID TO TACKLE CONTROVERSY

Much of his comedy is informed by his upbringing during the apartheid so he doesn’t mind tackling race issues head on

5. HE’S ALSO A SOAP ACTOR… SORT OF

In 2002, Trevor appeared in Isidingo, a soap opera about a billionaire mining tycoon. Yep, he was in South African Dallas.

6. HE’S FAR TOO YOUNG TO BE THIS SUCCESSFUL

He’s only 31 and he just landed one of the hottest jobs in television. Makes your big weekend plans to watch an entire series of Quantum Leap look a bit less impressive doesn’t it?

7. HE LIKES MAKING FUN OF AMERICANS

He’s lived in America on and off for a few years and he shows no qualms about taking on his new home

8. HE LIKES MAKING FUN OF THE BRITISH

In a recent appearance on The John Bishop Show he basically handed the British Empire’s arse to us on a plate

9. HE’S CHANGING TARGETS

Jon Stewart’s departure could mean the end of the show’s love/hate-affair with Fox News, as Trevor wants to look more closely at online institutions such as Gawker and Buzzfeed:

“The biggest challenge is how do we bring all of that together, looking through a bigger lens as opposed to just going after one course, which was historically Fox News.”

10. HE’S TOTALLY READY FOR THE JOB…
