The month of Njaanuary is almost over and there are a couple of songs that made a difficult month abit bearable. Some songs just manage to put anyone is a great mood and forget their financial woes, others just get you hype even though you have no money to spend in the club.
Here is a list of January’s best:
1.Tippy Toe- Femi One ft. Kristoff
Upbeat with a Genge beat, Femi One and Kristoff have given Kenyans the perfect anthem to kick off the weekend. Released on 17th of January, the flow and rhythm of the song is easy, just right for a casual dance at home or popping bottles at the club. The unique dance might just blow up to become the next challenge, being probably the best feature of the video. Interestingly, the two hip-hop artists did not drop heavy bars, but the song’s catchy flow more than compensates for the lackluster lyrics.
2. Wizkid- Daddy Yo
In true Wizkid fashion, his new single Daddy Yo released on December 22nd was the perfect Christmas gift that kept on giving even a month into the new year. Effortless, with a ragga feel, Wizkid impresses with his simple yet sophisticated track that could have anyone singing along. The background vocals by Efya, are like an open invite to all to join in the fun. 2017 holds many exciting things for the Nigerian “Starboy.”
3. Kagwe Mungai ft Fena, Mayonde and Muthoni Drummer Queen- Kama Kawaida

4. Ed Sheeran- Castle On The Hill
After a long break, British Grammy winner Ed Sheeran is back with a new album. Released January 23rd, the track Castle On The Hill chronicles his life and the memories shared with friends. In many ways, the song that evokes feelings of nostalgia for old friends and simpler times is a great reminder to back to the basics. The simplest things count the most.
5.Calvo Mistari ft. Amos and Josh -Urembo
Presenting their take on what makes a woman beautiful, Calvo Mistari points out that makeup does not make a good woman but rather a kind heart and simplicity. The vocals by Amos and Josh provide a harmonious melody that is like a sweet serenade to all Kenyan women.
6. AY ft. Nyashinski – More & More
Halfway between Bongo Flava and a Nigerian classic beat, the track More & More is a happy mix of styles infused with a classic flow. It seems Nyashinski is just getting warmed up as he conquers the airwaves with every song he releases. In an interview with Cloud FM, AY admitted he was excited to work with the talented Nyashinski. Both starting their careers at least a decade ago, it is exciting to see the duo work together.
7. Chris Brown ft. Usher, Gucci Mane- Party
This is a typical Breezy track. Combining Trap and R&B, Chris Brown’s smooth voice laid over heavy beats is always a crowd pleaser. The track that features Usher and Gucci Mane, is the track to start off the weekend right.
8. Sean Paul ft Dua Lipa – No Lie
For the lovers of all things Jamaican exports; Bob Marley, Jerk Chicken, and even reggae there is one more important aspect of Jamaica’s best that should not be forgotten. Sean Paul. From the man who gave the world club bangers like “We Be Burning” and “Temperature,” it’s no wonder his new hit is lit. Read the full song review here .

With the track released in mid-December, this single crossed over to 2017 and continues to get lots of love on air and online. With a laid back approach to rap, Big Sean brings his unique style to a colorful video to bounce back after a long hiatus.
10. Sia- Move Your Body
Her distinct sound and odd video concepts, Sia embodies a new level of creativity. In her new track Move Your Body released January 21st, Sia brings something new to the table, lifting moods in January.
