Tight security at UoN Open Day

open day UoN

This year’s University of Nairobi Open Day started on a high note amid tight security at the main campus. Security officers frisked and patrolled the venue as students and other attendants streamed in for the three-day event.

The fifth edition of the UoN open day features all UoN departments and allows everyone to ask questions concerning various courses and programmes offered at the university

One of the organizers of the event who spoke to Capital Campus said that such an event ‘‘gives the general public and prospective students the opportunity of learning about the University.”

We got some of the people who attended the event and most of them had different views to say about the University.

Christine Muthoni cleared secondary school last year at Buruburu High School.

‘‘I didn’t know much about the University but I have learnt a lot. Being my first time at this place, I have been able to know about various courses offered at the University of Nairobi and after a thorough analysis of the courses, I have decided that I will come to study Actuarial Science,” says Muthoni.

‘‘I like the environment, trees, good looking people, professional staff and all the good things that have been displayed at this place. There are so many programmes being offered and initially, I was very confused and skeptical of what I was coming to study. However, I have learned that I like Mathematics and I definitely want to study Civil Engineering,’’ said Mary Ann, one of the attendee of the event.

Caroline Karanja who cleared High School last year says that she is happy to have attended the event as she has never had an opportunity of interacting with university students and scholars. ‘‘The professors were so encouraging and I really thought that studying at University is so fun. I must study Bachelor of Medicine”, says Caroline.

There was also a lot on offer for post graduate students who are considering pursuing masters or doctoral studies.
