5 African teams have made it to the FIFA World Cup to take place in Russia from the 14th of June 2018.

Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia and Senegal all have a good chance at making it past the knock-out stages. According to OkayAfrica, “only three African teams have made it to the World Cup quarter-finals: Cameroon in 1990 in Italy, Senegal in 2002 during their World Cup debut in South Korea and Japan, and Ghana in 2010 in South Africa. ”

With the international competition just a few days away from kick-off, there are a few African stars you should be rooting for at the global games.

7. Hamza Mendyl

Age 20, he is among the young stars to represent an African state at the World Cup. He is also the only black baller on the Morocco team. The left-back rising star plays for the French team Lille. Born and raised in Casablanca, Hamza is set to bring lots of energy to the  Morocco team.
