The Seven: Entertaining Period-Set shows worth binging during self isolation

Self-isolation is a bummer. But instead of getting bored and lost in the depths of the world wide web,why not watch some highly entertaining shows?

Here is our list of period set shows that are definitely worth binge watching.


The Amazon Prime production brings Jordan Peele as director and the legendary Al Pacino in an action packed show. The 2020 release centers on the lives of Nazi hunters who discover high-ranking Nazis in New York City. Set in the 1970s, the television show is dynamic, entertaining and offers some harsh realities on the ideologies of the Nazi.

2.Little America

An 8-part story of immigrants, it is heart-warming, soul-churning and so endearing. Sharing real-life stories of 8 immigrants, the show is written by Lee Eisenberg, Kumail Nanjiani, and Emily V. Gordon who lend their experience in story telling to make this Apple TV production, a well rounded production. Touching on various topics including race relations, LGBTQI community and the re-imagined American dream, ‘Little America’ offers the true depiction of why many call the United States of America, a melting pot of cultures and the land built by immigrants. This is a must-watch 2020 release.

3. Downtown Abbey

This British Show is one of the most popular productions out the the United Kingdom in years. Offering a fly-on-the-wall glimpse into the lives of British aristocracy, this show is a treat for all. With 6 seasons of delightful drama, the show covers the effects of war, a new century, love and legacy in the lives of the spirited Crawley Family. It also has a movie worth watching also directed by Julian Fellows that was released late 2019.

4. The Crown

In same vein of aristocracy, ‘The Crown’ is also quite entertaining. A narrative based on the life of currently reigning royal Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it shares her life in great detail. Now in its third season, the Netflix production has garnered quite the audience for its dramatic take on the life of the royal.

5. Peaky Blinders

As earlier reported on The Sauce, ‘Peaky Blinders’ is set in Birmingham, the show only has 4 seasons out so far, which makes catching up quite simple. The show that is centered around Tommy and the Peaky Blinders gang. The tragic backstories only serve to make the plot-lines that much more entertaining. The British show has an incredible cast and is definitely worth watching for anyone who is interested in great fight scenes and lots of love and drama.

6. Mad Men

This show is everything corporate America was all about in the 1960s. The show that centers around the marketing maverick John Draper and his team; offers a charming, intriguing journey into a much different time. With 7 seasons worth of top entertainment, its no wonder why this show has won 5 Golden Globes.

7. The Wonderful Mrs. Maisel

Set in the 1950s, ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ is an American period comedy-drama web television series, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the same creative known for her work on ‘Gilmore Girls’. The show is funny, unreserved and pragmatic, as Mrs. Maisel navigates life after being left by her husband. Now in its third season, the show has garnered several nominations including 3 Emmy Awards.
