Public figure Anita Nderu’s latest video has tongues wagging.
The television host who got her start on ‘Teen Republik’ now has a YouTube series dubbed ‘The Overdressed Cook’. The show that first began in early 2020, has had a variety of guests including personal trainer Shiv Simani, Throwdown Queen Miss Mandi as well as radio persona Shaq The Yungin.
In a teaser for an upcoming release of The Overdressed Cook, Nderu is filmed with two members of the LGBTQi community where she engages in some lewd talk peppered with innuendos.
Though the video was in celebration of Pride Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness about the plight of the LGBTQi community; it seems that KOT did not take it as well. The Instagram video went viral, with many quick to judge Nderu’s character.
Netizens have taken to Twitter to express their displeasure with the collaboration video. Though it was assumed that the Kenyan beauty’s teaser was in association with local cooking oil brand Fresh Fri, the brand was quick to point out they had no working relationship.
Fans and trolls also went on to comment on the confused messaging of the teaser. One commented, “Who agrees with me Anita nderu amechoma mbaya”. However, despite the backlash, Nderu is keen to set the record straight. She pointed out that the video was not scripted, and interractions on the show are genuine and true to her character and her guests.
Though the talented home cook has pointed out that she did not mean to offend anyone, many have also come out in her defense noting that the video brings relevant topics of the often marginalized LGBTQI community. One noted, “achaneni na Anita Nderu yeye ako job, kama ingekua madem kwa iyo video hakungekua na big issue na hamngewatch.”
