Students protests corner politicians to enforce gun laws in America

One month ago a Florida High School was the site for a mass shooting that saw 17 students die. In commemoration of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, students organized a classroom walkout, to protest against the minimal gun law reforms American lawmakers have made since the shooting.

Spearheaded by the Women’s March Youth branch, those who participated in this nation-wide protest were eager to make a lasting statement. According to CNN, the students’ major demands were centered around a ban on assault weapons; implementing mandatory universal background checks before gun sales as well as passing a gun violence restraining order law that would allow courts to disarm people who display warning signs of violent behavior.

Some of the students interviewed shared their determination, expressing disappointment with America’s lawmakers stand on gun violence. Speaking to CNN,  it was noted, “By more than one school doing this, it shows politicians and lawmakers that we want change to happen,” senior Audrey Diaz said. “And the next generation is prepared to make that happen.”

Using social media, students made their voice heard loud and clear.
