Student winners of the first digital essay named

Winners of the first digital essay competition has been announced today. eKitabu and Kenya’s Ministry of Education Science and Technology have partnered to advance the use of digital content to achieve transformative education outcomes. Over 2,000 public and private schools across Kenya had been invited to submit essays online at essay.ekatibu.com.

 

The competition was open in August and September to two categories of students:  Upper Primary (Class 5- Class 8) and all Secondary School pupils.  In answer to the question “How Will Technology Improve My Learning” the Competition received 718 essays from 85 schools across 27 counties.  Entries came from urban centers as well as remote areas of Kenya including West Pokot, Migori, Turkana and Mandera.

JUDGES’ AWARD:  Esther Hope Wahu, Bishop GatimuNgandu Girls High School   

 

Sponsors were Kenya’s Ministry of Education, Intel, Samsung, Text Book Centre and Elimu.  Prizes included scholarship funds for the top three Finalists in each category and a grand prize of Samsung Tablets for the top essays in each category. Competition Judges also gave a special Judges’ Award to a Finalist from Nyeri, who, along with her essay, submitted a hand drawn picture showing her analog life today and her digital future as she conceives it.
