It is quite normal for students to depend on their parents. But now things seem to be changing. University students are seeking ways to earn that extra coin.
A couple of years back, it was not odd to hear a public university student say that they have to go out of their way to earn that extra coin. They tend to look for jobs to grant themselves a better lifestyle. However the plague has taken over in private universities, where students look for side hustles. Arguing that what their parents give them is barely enough to keep up with their lifestyle.
I was recently having a conversation with my friends and they revealed they were all on the hunt for a job. Surprisingly, thier parents cater for them, giving them enough pocket money for miscellaneous expenditures just to ensure they stay focused on their books. To say the least, I was baffled by the average student’s expenses, that require them to get a side gig.
It’s encouraging when a student looks for a part-time job to earn that extra cash. However, the question beckons, is being used for the right reasons? Funding their nights out and lavish lifestyle, there is need for students to make more smart financial decisions. Make your money work for you and instead of spending it on a Friday night, put some away for a rainy day.
