Steph & Ayesha Curry advocate for girls education, launching a STEM scholarship

Power couple Steph and Ayesha Curry are doing everything they can for girls’ education.

A father of three, Curry is doing more to uplift young girls. Once named NBA ‘s Most Valuable Player, he has now taken his philanthropic efforts to new heights, announcing a 30,000 scholarship award to a young girl with promise. This scholarship follows the Golden State warrior’s recent collaboration with a young girl Riley Morrison. After a hand-written letter from Riley, it was realized that the shoe did not come in young girls sizes. In an attempt to make things right the duo worked on the Curry 6 United We Win shoe released on International Women’s Day.

A press release from Steph Curry 30 Inc. said, “Inspired by a nine-year-old Riley Morrison, who had the courage to speak out against gender inequality, The Stephen & Ayesha Curry Family Foundation is funding an annual scholarship that’s given to a college-bound female student from the Bay Area who has shown an aptitude for overcoming adversity, catalyzing change within her community and demonstrating excellence in a STEM-related field of study.”

Requirements to win the annual scholarship will see students take 2 or more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) classes each semester as well as maintain a grade point average 3.0 per semester.  The first recipient of the scholarship is Vivian Wu, a senior at Oakland Tech with a 4.2 GPA and more than 300 hours of community service on her resume. According to Ebony, Curry and his lovely wife saw the opportunity to offer scholarships to deserving young girls as a continuation of Curry’s work with Robinson and Under Armour. Curry credited Riley captioning his Instagram post, “From a handwritten note to a $30k scholarship for Vivian Wu to pursue higher education in STEM. Riley Morrison changed the game.”
