Why They Could Soon Call Oprah Winfrey, “Madam President”

‘The View’ co-hosts have claimed Oprah Winfrey could run for president after her powerful Golden Globes speech, despite having “no political experience”.

The 63-year-old took to the stage at the glitzy ceremony on Sunday (07.01.18) to accept her Cecil B. DeMille Award, and gave a moving speech in which she praised the women who have come forward in recent months to begin the discussions about sexual harassment in Hollywood, and spoke of a “new day” in which misconduct would be eliminated from the workplace.

After the speech, her long-term partner Stedman Graham claimed the ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ star would “absolutely” run for President if the “people” wanted it. Now, the co-hosts of US talk show ‘The View’ have weighed in on the possibility of the star running for office.

Lawyer Sunny Hostin wasn’t a fan of the idea and said: “I love Oprah, I love the stuff that she’s done … but don’t we already have someone in the White House who has no political experience and it’s not going that well. I don’t think you can just step into this role even if you’re as beloved as Oprah.”

But comedian Joy Behar didn’t think the experience would matter when she replied: “Why are you being so logical? Really, it’s too logical what you’re saying. We need someone who can win. That’s all we care about.”

Sunny then added: “But it’s more than winning. You have to be able to run the country.”

Whilst Joy claimed: “They’ll figure it out just like [Donald Trump’s] trying to do.”

But the co-hosts aren’t convinced Oprah wants to run for President, as the announcing her decision to run would “polarise the country”, according to columnist Meghan McCain.

She said during Monday’s (08.01.18) episode of the show: “I wouldn’t underestimate her, I think you’re 1,000 percent right. It’s not that I don’t think she could president, it’s just done she ultimately want to, which I’m not convinced of.”

In her powerful speech, Oprah spoke about press freedom, racism, and sexual abuse before receiving a standing ovation with her closing words about the future.
