The SuperBowl is a family affair in the US and apparently some viewers were overly offended by Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s sexy halftime show.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) received 1,312 complaints from viewers who had something to say about the halftime show featuring Latina pop queens Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.
As reported by The Sauce, the history-making performance paid homage to the women’s Latina roots, sent out political messages on immigration, paid tribute to Kobe Bryant and embodied their sexuality despite their ages.
The singers danced on poles, twerked, belly danced and made more than a few sexually suggestive gestures.
Some of the complaints came from parents who felt their children were exposed to a “porno show.” Other adults thought the show encouraged sex trafficking.
“The 54 Super Bowl Half Time Show with Shakira and JLos [sic] was disgusting. Their overly sexy dancing, full crotch shots, spreading their legs was tasteless,” one complaint reads.
“There were people in lingerie doing pole dances on the Superbowl half-time show,” another complaint states. ”This is completely unacceptable and a poor reflection on our country.”
Interestingly enough, only around 50 people filed complains when Maroon 5’s frontman, Adam Levine, performed topless at Super Bowl LIII in 2019.
The FCC received 540,000 complaints after Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson’s 2004 performance, during which Jackson’s breast briefly became exposed.
