Schools re-open, KCSE and KCPE slotted for March 2021

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced the next steps for the school year that was distrupted by Coronavirus.

The Cabinet Secretary announced on Tuesday (06.10.2020) that the phased re-opening of schools for Competency-Based Curriculum Class Grade 4, Class 8 and Form 4 learners will begin on Monday, October 12.

Magoha also announced the dates for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) as well as Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination.

As such, KCPE exams will start on March 22, 2021, and end on March 24, 2021. Meanwhile, KCSE exams will start on March 25, 2021, and end on April 16, 2021.

According to the CS, all schools will be required to strictly adhere to COVID-19 containment protocols and guidelines, among them mandatory use of face masks, monitoring of body temperature and observance of high levels of hygiene.

The ministry also announced that all schools that had been used as quarantine centres have been fumigated under the supervision of the ministry of health in readiness for re-opening.

“Although physical distancing will remain a challenge, it should not be used as a bottleneck to keep any child away from school,” Magoha said.

Schools have been linked to the nearest public health facility prior to being re-opened.

The ministry also encouraged teachers to continuously provide psychosocial and spiritual support to learners and school support staff during the duration of the current pandemic.
