Kenyan mammoth singing group Sauti Sol have lost 2000 YouTube subscribers amid brewing controversy that stems from their vendetta with the Azimio coalition.
The group had amassed a total of 905, 000 subscribers and have been one of the most subscribed to Kenyan acts for years on end. After they called out the political group for using their song ‘Extravaganza’ illegally while announcing Martha Karua as coalition leader Raila Odinga’s official running mate in the forthcoming elections, Kenyans have expressed mixed reactions.
A section of social media users with possible deep affiliation to the coalition threatened to unsubscribe from the ‘Nishike’ hitmakers’ YouTube channel, and it looks like some of them kept their word. The singing group’s current subscribers stand at 903, 000 subscribers.
Reacting to the dip in numbers, Sauti Sol’s Bien ridiculed the move. “Time will reveal. Wale wanashuka washuke saa hii. Stage yao imefika,” He wrote under a post announcing the drop in numbers.
Other Kenyan artistes with a big YouTube following Otile Brown, Khaligraph Jones and Nadia Mukami, among a few others, with Brown having the most subscribers with 1.15 million.
