Songbird Ruth Matete is mourning the death of her husband whom she married a mere five months ago.
Sources confirm that her Nigerian husband, John Apewajoye alias Beloved John, died while undergoing treatment for burns at a Nairobi based hospital.
The news of her bereavement have spread on the interwebs like wildfire. The gospel music fraternity, other celebrities and fans have come forward to condole with the former Tusker Project Fame contestant.
Matete’s father and actor Abel Amunga revealed John was rushed to the hospital two weeks ago after sustaining injuries from a gas fire incident.John was rushed to a city hospital and admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) before being transferred to a similar unit in a different hospital. He unfortunately passed away at 8.30pm Saturday (11.04.2020).
“Two weeks ago, John who was a pastor and ministered together with Ruth Matete refilled their gas cylinder. However, the fire could not start and he suspected that the gas was in excess. He took it out to the balcony opened the valve to release some gas then returned it to the kitchen. He didnt know that there were gases all over his clothes. On lighting the fire, he started to burn,” Matetes father said according to a report by Nairobi News.
“We cannot ascertain that he died because of the fire injuries. We are suspecting kidney failure but we will confirm that after the postmortem. It is a tough time for Ruth and our family and I ask that she be allowed to mourn in peace,” Amunga added.
Matete has been raised by her dad after her mother died when she was only right years old.
The couple got married in November 2019 in a colourful ceremony and now sources have confirmed that the singer is in the first trimester of her pregnancy.
