Gospel singer Rufftone, real name Roy Smith Mwatia, claims brother and fellow gospel musician Daddy Owen once wielded a machete to attack him over a political disagreement.
Rufftone appeared in a TV show with Jalang’o, when he made the revelation. He says the incident ensued after the two got embroiled in an argument, as they had divergent views on the then opponent political parties. “In 2007 I remember my blood brother Daddy Owen who supported ODM while I was for PNU, when we disagreed in the morning. Owen and his machete-wielding friends went out in the streets and wanted to harm me,” quipped Rufftone.
The singer further faulted the Orange Democratic Movement for being ‘violent’ and privy to ‘hooliganism’, which he says contributed to his joining the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in his quest for the Nairobi senatorial seat. “ODM has a culture of hooliganism, which should not be the case. Politics should entail ideologies. If we differ politically, you do not have to get physical,” he continues.
Rufftone announced his Nairobi Senatorial bid in November last year announcing: “I am disclosing this for the first time in regards to what the future holds for Rufftone. You are looking at the new incoming Nairobi Senator, Mr. Roy Smith Mwatia,” he revealed.
