Rude Burna Boy rebukes artists who think high streaming numbers equates to talent

Afrobeats star Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy dropped a bombshell addressing overrated artists and streaming numbers.

The ‘Ye’ crooner took to instastories to talk down to artists who have tied their success and relevance to the analytics from online streaming platforms with the caption.

“This streaming Shit be making people think they’re talented. If joke tings like “Baby Shark” and “Gangnam style” can do more numbers than Everyone, Don’t think you are Talented or Respected cuz of your Streaming numbers. Everyone with real working brains knows What is a Joke and what is real. Anyway, plenty talk no Dey full basket. Let Time reveal All,” posted Burna Boy.

According to the Guardian Nigeria, This unpopular opinion came shortly after fellow Nigerian artist Mayorkun posted a photo on Instagram celebrating 70 million streams on his debut solo album ‘The Mayor Of Lagos’.

Barely one week ago, Burna Boy was in the spotlight for criticizing artists that sign international deals with foreign record labels and music management agencies around the same time Tiwa Savage announced her new deal with Universal Music as reported by The Sauce.

This is not the first time hitmaker has said something controversial, according to Daily Nation in April 2017 Burna called Kenyans peasants after they complained about not getting their money’s worth with his mediocre one hour performance at the then popular Privee club in Westlands, Nairobi.

Early this year as reported by The Sauce, Burna came at the Coachella organizers for writing his name in a small font on the official Coachella line up poster saying that he was an ‘African giant’ and thus that small font didn’t do him justice.
