2020 is a chance to forget the difficulties of the decade gone past, and what better way to do that than with some great music.
With a trio of releases from some of the best island acts, here is our list of tracks to keep you positive in 2020:
1. Skip Marley, H.E.R – Slow Down
If you enjoy a likkle wine, and some slow-mo tunes that will get you in your feels , this collaboration between Skip Marley and H.E.R is a winner. Shot in bustling New York, the twosome fall fast, and the lyrics and visuals take us on a ride we just can’t say no to. Bob Marley’s grandson Skip Marley matches up to H.E.R, making for a overflow of talent as their voices melt into one another. H.E.R’s honeyed vocals contrast Skip’s strong voice with a cadence similar to Bob Marley. The duet is almost like Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley re-imagined for the millennial listener, a much welcomed collaboration, we never knew we needed. This track is on repeat. No cap.
2.Romain Virgo- Never Make Her Sad
St. Anne Parish native Romain Virgo has released a track, a dedication to his loving mother, who features in the visuals. The release which made its way onto YouTube on 20th December 2019 is a sweet, heartfelt track about the special bond between a son and his mother. Chronicling his journey into success, Romain highlights the important part his mother has continued to play in his life, from his time as a youngster in school, to winning the Digicel competition which propelled his career. According to YouTube, “Romain Virgo performs a prayer for his mother while giving viewers an inside look into some of his most memorable life experiences. Filmed in his hometown of Stepney, located in the hills of St. Ann, Jamaica.” This track is definitely a must listen.
3. Jah Cure feat Mya – Only You
Jah Cure joins forces with the beautiful Mya for a loving duet. The track which features on Cure’s lastest album ‘Royal Soldier’ is a sincere, passionate release. Known as the King of Lover’s Rock, Jah Cure delivers the vocals and the visuals call all to fall in love in the lush setting of the Jamaican beaches. Grammy award winner Mya adds her signature soft, sweet vocals to the track, adding dimension to the release. With Valentines around the corner, this track is a front-runner to set the mood. The track was released on December 13th 2019, and has since garnered over 1M views.
