This year’s Oscar Awards are on the way and the hosts just got announced. This year’s nominees for the March awards will be no less than Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes.
The three were announced on Tuesday as the presiding figures of the upcoming 94th Academy Awards on the Good Morning America telecast, and will make history as the first all-female trio have hosted the show, though it is not the first time more than one host. The most recent pairing would be when Anne Hathaway and James Franco cohosted the 2011 ceremony, to harsh criticism.
The last time the awards had three hosts, however, was in 1987 when Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and Paul Hogan teamed up for the hosting duties. There has not been an Oscars host for three consecutive years since 2019 when Kevin Hart pulled out of the ceremony amid controversy.
Schumer, Hall and Sykes are all seasoned actresses-cum-comedians who have hosted shows before. Hall hosted the BET Awards and put on quite a show, while Schumer hosted the 2015 MTV Movie Awards. Sykes has had hosting duties at the 29th GLAAD Awards, as well as guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel and Ellen DeGeneres’ shows.
This year’s Academy Awards are slated for March 27.
