Jamaican Grammy nominated artist Etana is back with a new project called ‘Pamoja’.
Etana released her highly anticipated 16-track album on the 25th of June 2021. Her 2019 trip to Nairobi, Kenya is the main source of inspiration for this new body of work.
The album is filled with tracks and collaborations that underline Etana’s connection with Africa. The album is named ‘Pamoja’, which means “together” in Swahili, in this case, togetherness in all essence of collaborating with artists from all over the world, like vocalists from Nigeria, Nandy (Tanzania), Naiboi and Wyre (Kenya), Wezi (Zambia), and the earlier released track ‘Proppa’ with Stonebwoy (Ghana) as well as the ‘Baby O’ featuring Dancehall star Vybz Kartel. The Title track Pamoja is a collaboration with Yahsha from Jamaica and Michael Bundi from Kenya.
The tracks on the album are a mix of Dancehall, Afrobeat, and Reggae, and starts off with a lovely intro by a Jamaican elder named Chinna who speaks well about Etana.
It is hard to pick out favorites from the album because all the singles in the project are such gems. The collaborative efforts are seamless which speaks to Etana’s ability to work withy a myriad of artists and groove to different vibes.

Other than the Kenyan collaborations, Kenyan fans ought to look out for Etana’s rendition of ‘Malaika’ originally sang by Fadhili Williams. In this cover, the ‘Weakness in Me’ hitmaker sings in Swahili and adds her own flavor to this beloved masterpiece.
Kenya is a top destination for Reggae and Dancehall stars. In a past interview, ‘The Strong One’ as she is popularly known as said one of her most riveting stage performances took place in Nairobi, Kenya, in front of an estimated 7,000 fans.
‘Pamoja’ is coming off the heels of her 2020 album titled ‘Gemini’ and her Grammy nominated album ‘Reggae Forever’ in 2018.
