The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has confirmed the termination of rapper Nonini’s membership with the body, in a letter posted by the rapper.
The rapper, real name Hubert Mbuku Nakitare, first sought to terminate his membership with the body that is mandated to administer economic rights for musical works in Kenya. This will no mean that the Mtoto Mzuri rapper will get no remittances from MCSK.
The musician who now resides in the United States shared the letter on his social media that reads: “We refer to the above and your notice of membership termination dated 17th, February 2021. Please note that your membership at Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has been terminated effective May 18, 2022 as per article 9(e) of Articles of Association of MCSK. We wish you all the best in your endeavors,” Reads the letter from the CFO.
In August 2018, Nonini resigned as the chairman of the Performers’ Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) over what he termed as the board going against the conditions set by Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO), its regulator.
PRISK is licensed by KECOBO and is a collective management organization that represents performers in musical and dramatic works.
