Kenya’s RnB maestro Otile Brown, paired up with Rwanda’s Meddy in June 2020. The duo would know that just 5 months after the release of the song, it would garner an impressive 16M views.
When the song was released, there was an online craze about it, it lyrical chorus “when you move to the left, move to the right…” created an online challenge that helped propel its popularity. Aside from the catchy lyrics, and beautiful melodies its TikTok challenge went viral making for the perfect formula for success.
Otile, a big name in the industry and a “magnet” for blondes fueled the ‘Dusuma’ challenge by reposting the funky dances by well-endowed ladies gyrating to the song’s beats. The mellow voices by Otile and Meddy also gave the song a lot of mileage and as they say, a good song will always walk miles when you least expect it. The track featured on Brown’s ‘Just In Love’ album that did very well online.
Meddy recently shared the news that Dusuma was Africa’s most viewed song in the last five months.
“Dusuma has been in top of the most watched music video in Africa for the last five months only,” he wrote on his Instagram page.‘Dusuma’ is Otile Brown’s second song in his debut album ‘Just In Love’ which sold big in East Africa where he now has a huge fan base.
Otile Brown has had a number of songs burst through the 20M mark on YouTube. His 2018 collaboration with Sanaipei Tande ‘Chaguo la Moyo’ has garnered 23M views.
The ‘ Hi’ crooner was recently lauded by Octopizzo for his talent. The Namba 8 rapper pointed out that many Kenyans took Otile’s talent and musical contribution for granted.
Brown’s latest achievement goes to show he deserve respect, and after beating the likes of Sauti Sol and Khaligraph Jones, his talent and listenership has spoken for itself.
