No Classes Reserved For African American Students

In an age where the American political situation is fueled by racial tension, some institutions are making an effort to level the playing field for all races. However, when it comes to matters of race and gender many have learnt to walk on eggshells to avoid stirring up trouble.

One institute, Moraine Valley Community College allocated a class exclusively for black students only. However after proposing to reserve the course College 101 for African American students, the college has decided to open up slots to all students.  As establishments hope to ensure equality for all with many topics making the news such as Black Lives Matter and the All Lives Matter movements; Moraine Valley reversed their decision and got lots of backlash for their decision.

According to USA College Today, the course, which is required for all full-time freshmen, will still be offered for “special populations,” but its sections will not be organized by race, the school’s director of marketing and communications, Claire Briner, tells the magazine site. She declined to comment on why the school reversed its decision. College 101 will now have “two sections designated for students with disabilities and one section for honors students slated for the fall semester,” according to Briner.
