Nigerian artists are levelling up all the way to the Grammys.
In the recently announced 2022 Grammy Awards nominations, several Nigerian artists including hitmaker Wizkid, Femi Kuti and Angelique Kidjo received multiple nominations for the prestigious music awards.
Wizkid’s ‘Made in Lagos (Deluxe Edition)’, ‘Mother Nature’ by Angelique Kidjo, ‘Legacy+’ by father and son duo Femi Kuti and Made Kuti got nominations in the Best Global Music Album.
In the Best Global Music Performance, Wizkid and newcomer Tems another nod for his summer hit song , ‘Essence,’ which has garnered over 50 million views on YouTube since it’s realease in April 2021. Angelique Kidjo got her second nomination in ‘Do Yourself’, Femi Kuti earned his second nomination for the track Pa, Pa, Pa and lastly Yo-Yo Ma’s song ‘Blewu’ got multi Grammy award winner Angelique her third nomination in the upcoming awards.
The Nigerians’ success and recognition at the Grammys has been growing over the years with the ‘African Giant’ Burna Boy winning the award for the Best Global Music Album for ‘Twice As Tall’ at the 2021 awards show.
South Africa’s Black Coffee also got a nod for Best Dance Album.
The 64th edition of the awards dubbed ‘music’s biggest night’ will be held on January 31st, 2022 in Los Angeles, California.
