Nigerian Burna Boy and Jamaica’s Koffee nominated for the 2020 Grammy Awards

The 2020 Grammy nominations are out.


Nigerian superstar Burna Boy and Jamaican songstress Koffee  are some of the favorite nominees of the upcoming prestigious awards which will be held on the 26th of January 2020, in Los Angeles.

Burna Boy has earned his first-ever nomination in the ‘Best World Music’ category for his celebrated album African Giant.

In that same category is three-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo for her album Celia, which pays homage to the late Afro-Cuban legend Celia Cruz. Burna and Kidjo worked together on the track “Different” from African Giant.

Jamaican singer Koffee known for her hit song ‘Toast’ is among the nominees for the Best Reggae Album for her album ‘Rapture’.Koffee’s Grammy nomination is a tremendous achievement as this is her first album and she is the third ever female nominee in this category. She is also been nominated amongst veterans reggae artists/bands who are past winners and nominees.

Other nominees for this award include Julian Marley for the album ‘The As I Am’, Sly & Robbie & Roots Radics for the album ‘The Final Battle: Sly & Robbie Vs. Roots Radics’, Steel Pulse for the album ‘Mass Manipulation’ and Third World for the ‘More Work To Be Done’.

Other African stars nominated for the awards are, Mr Eazi for his work on J Balvin and Bad Bunny’s Oasis. Also he along with several artists including Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and Shatta Wale are also nominated alongside Beyoncé for their work on her ‘The Lion King: The Gift album’, which was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album amongst others.

South African comedian and TV host Trevor Noah, who recently became the first African artist to sell-out NYC’s Madison Square Garden, also earned a nomination in the Best Comedy Album category for ‘Sticks and Stones.’
