Despite Coronavirus affecting most aspects of life, it seems that musicians are keen to keep things going, making it business as usual.
Here are the new releases worth listening to:
- Young John feat Tiwa Savage, Joeboy – Let Them Know
Nigerian record producer and audio engineer Young John has dropped a new song titled ‘Let Them Know’ featuring multiple award-winning singer Tiwa Savage and super talented Joeboy.
Produced by Young Jonn himself, ‘Let Them Know’ is a super cool pop tune that will brighten up your quarantine period. Tiwa Savage introduces the song with her beautiful voice setting the pace for Young Jonn and Joeboy’s charming voice.
It follows Young Jonn’s last release dubbed ‘Mafo’ in which he featured ‘Marlian President’ Naira Marley. Young Jonn is best known for producing the critically acclaimed single titled “Story For The Gods” off Olamide’s Street OT album according to Mdundo.
2.Simi – Duduke
Talented songstress Simi has released a new track ‘Duduke’ and shocked the world with the visuals. When the track’s audio was released on April 16th, the lyrics could have one conclude that it was a love song in which Simi pours out his heart to the love of her heart according to reports.
However, it seems the sweet lyrics in ‘Duduke’ song are dedicated to Simi’s unborn child, the perfect way to announce a new chapter of her life. Simi shows off the baby bump and revels in her pregnancy glow in the beautiful visuals. Simi and husband Adekunle Gold are yet to share the baby’s due date, but based on the video, Simi could be in her third trimester.
3.Charisma – Marry U Twice
Charisma dropped his debut EP last month and it was really a summary of love in all its motions. The talented crooner released his single ‘Marry U Twice’ featuring television presenter Foi Wambui.
Le Band’s frontman took the release to new heights with a poignant message on domestic violence. Mdundo points out the video took on gender-based violence, advocating for healthy, non-toxic relationships even as domestic violence raise as couples remain social isolation. The track was produced by Joshua Ejay, and mixed by Jaaz Odongo.
4. Davido ft. Summer Walker – D&G
Davido is having his best year yet with one major release after another. In 2020, he has dropped ‘1 Milli’ a month ago, worked with ANGEL, French Montana on the Blessings Remix, and now he’s dropped a collaboration with Summer Walker .
Making major moves, Davido seems keen to stake his claim as the afrobeats star with some strategic collaborations, and some really good music. ‘D&G’ is another one added to his repertoire of feel-good music, that fuses soul with the Naija sound of afrobeats. The track was well packaged, produced by renowned producer London on the Track.
Speaking about his collaboration, Davido pointed out that he and Walker are also making donations towards Coronavirus research fund by Dolce & Gabanna.
5. Kamauu – Far Rockaway
Brooklyn-based rapper Kamauu is here with another release. The track is “a song about pain, acceptance, letting things go, and distant romance in a time of social distancing”. The release tugs at the heartstrings, and delivers all the feels for those who have felt alone, in these times of self isolation.
The Atlantic signee is known for his unique sound, a fusion of genres elevated by his angelic harmonies. ‘Far Rockaway’ is Kamauu’s latest release since ‘Ivy’ dropped in September 2019.
