The month of March is here, and it seems the set is being set pretty high.
The local acts are eager to drop something new, and although many are wondering if the releases are just for the sake of having something new to indulge fans, the tracks from Bahati and Magix Enga are definitely worth a listen.
Magix Enga – Nairobi
He is probably one of the names to watch out for in 2020. Young, energetic and so talented, Magix Enga keeps pushing the envelope. After several fails last year, he is hitting the mark with his ode to Kenya’s capital ‘Nairobi’. Johnson Kyalo shot the visuals showcasing the cityscape, and Enga proved he is a well-rounded artist rapping and producing the track.
According to Mdundo, ‘Nairobi’ is all about Enga’s experience coming to the capital, when he had no job, no money to survive and later his great success. He goes on to urge young people to work earnestly adding that they too can move from having nothing to being a boss.
Bahati featuring Mejja, Madtraxx – Kererembe
Bahati is at it again, and this time his audience is not as shocked. They say “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.” After the release of ‘Kererembe’ Bahati is clearly not fooling anyone.
Many seem convinced that Eastlands’ finest Bahati is showing his true colors, forgetting the work of the Lord and seeking earthly success. With one scandal after another, this track might have just been created out of spite after his odd collab with gengetone crew Boondocks Gang, as earlier reported. This one is a special message just for the haters.
Boondocks Gang – Sidonyo
Has the gang has gone rogue? If it is possible for the Bondoocks Gang to even take things further, their latest release ‘Sidonyo’ is a mockery of religion. Dressed as members of the Lego Maria sect, the gang is captured with drums and other percussion instruments in what many could agree is a nauseating release. The Magix Enga production is trending, and it’s no wonder just listen to the lyrics.
The group just made headlines for their controversial collaboration ‘Taniua’. The scandalous release had many wondering if Bahati is just riding the Gengetone train for his benefit, or if he does genuinely care for the Boondocks youth as pointed out on a Sauce report. But with the new releases, it seems that both are experimenting with a new sound.
Nandy – Na Nusu
Celebrated Tanzanian songstress Nandy has dropped a new song dubbed ‘Na Nusu’. The track is a dance song with amazing beats and exciting vocals. The Asian-inspired video sees Nandy go up against a rival in an exciting karate fight. The track has more than 500K views since its release on February 28th, 2020.
The new release is the first studio single this year from the self-proclaimed African Princess according to Mdundo. For the better part of 2020, Nandy has been busy with live shows. A month ago, she featured on Ommy Dimpoz’s ‘Kata’ a song that performed extremely well in the East African region.
Davido – 1 Milli
Megastar Davido has released a new track ‘1 Milli’ featuring his girl Chioma. As reported on The Sauce, the twosome welcomed a baby boy in London on the 20th of October 2019. And now Insta Chef Chioma is serenaded on the track, as Davido sings he would pay dowry worth 1 million dollars. The video captures what would be a traditional wedding, a true celebration for lovers. The track is sweet, and oh so touching.
Burna Boy featuring 2Baba – We Must Groove
This twosome, make for a happy collaboration. The track is a fusion of 70s funk and the classic West African percussion-based afrobeats. The track melts together Burna’s brassy tone and 2Baba’s melodies for a great sound.
Shot in New York, it is clear that these two are taking afrobeats to the world. Burna also released a solo track dubbed ‘Odogwu’ on the same day, 28th February 2020. The visuals are yet to be released.
Which of these new releases are you feeling?
