Nakumatt Holdings has joined forces with a Youth Entrepreneurship training program – Youth With Initiative Awards (YouWin) to encourage Kenyan youth to set-up business enterprises and create employment opportunities.

The training program which is facilitated by Makini Training & Consultancy College provides a platform for youth between 18 and 35 years, with already existing business ventures to fine tune their business skills through seminars and apprenticeship programs.

Speaking during the partnership sign off, Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director, Atul Shah applauded the program’s objectives and reiterated the company’s commitment to support the program.

“Youth unemployment rate remains one of the greatest challenges facing our country today. The government has put in place deliberate and systematic programs and policies to appropriately empower the youth to realize their full potential.  At Nakumatt Holdings, we recognize that supporting programs such as YouWin Awards will positively contribute towards efforts to maximize involvement of young people in gainful employment and economic participation,” said Mr. Shah.

YouWin Awards Managing Director Mr. Joseph Okello said the program aims to challenge  the youth to set up businesses instead of waiting to be employed.

“We can embark on this by beginning to recognize and support the youth who have already devoted their time and resources towards their business ventures thus putting us a step ahead in solving the unemployment issue”.

The Youth With Initiative awards is scheduled to take place annually. The awards will recognize youth entrepreneurs who are making great strides in the business world. The different categories of the program include fastest growing business, ICT, Most innovative business, Environmental sustainability, Scalability and Socio-economic impact.

In addition, the awards will recognize Youth with Disability as well as Junior entrepreneurs, aged below 18 years.
