Popular Nairobi night club Dejavu Lounge is on the spot after their bouncers beat a reveler to death.
A disturbing video of the incident is making the rounds on social media and has since gone viral causing an uproar among Kenyans who are calling for justice.
The club management has released a statement on their social media platforms in a bid to clear the air about the horrific incident saying that they don’t condone any unlawful punishment on the premises.
The club has further tried to save face by stating that CCTV footage shows the reveler identified as Charles Chege was alive when he was evacuated from the entertainment joint.
The statement reads in part, “Our CCTV footage however shows that the man was alive at the time of being evacuated from the premises. What transpired after he left is under investigation by the DCI and we are cooperating with them.”
K24 TV reports that the deceased was last seen at the Westlands club on March 5th 2022. He was accused of stealing a phone from another reveler and was taken to a secluded room where he was beaten senseless for at least three hours.
His sister, Anne Fataki, told TV station that her kin’s body was collected by police officers based at the Kileleshwa Police Station after which it was booked at the City Mortuary as “unknown”.
Ms Fataki said that the autopsy report revealed that her brother had suffered multiple injuries as a result of blunt force trauma. “His ribs and legs were broken. His head appeared as though it had been hit with a blunt object. He also had blood clots all over the body,” she intimated.
It is said that eight people including the club manager and two bouncers are in police custody pending further investigations.
