It was a night for women at the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards. The event was hosted by singer Becky G.
Nigerian superstar, Burna Boy continued with his winning streak by taking home the award for Best African Act at the awards show held in Seville, Spain on Sunday, November 3rd 2019. The ‘Dangote’ crooner was up against Tanzania’s Harmonize and South Africa’s Nasty C.
Burna whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu has had a fantastic year so far. From performing at the 2019 Coachella Festival to winning major awards including the Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards held in June, releasing his ‘African Giant’ album as well as headlining his ‘Africa Giant Returns’ tour, finding love in British Jamaican rapper Stefflon Don and his song ‘Anybody’ being featured in the American Tv series ‘Ballers’.
When nominations were announced, Ariana Grande led the way with 7 nods. On the night, awards were dominated by women. But incredibly, Ariana Grande won no awards.
The big winners on the night were BTS with three awards. Halsey, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish won two awards each. Shawn Mendes also won Best Artist.
