Kenyan singing sensation Nadia Mukami has dropped a new record Legeza, featuring Genge-turned-Gengetone musician Mejja.
In honor of her 25th birthday, the singer released the new radio and club-friendly track featuring her fellow consistent musician, and it is just as good as you would have predicted.
Legeza is playful as they come and sees Mukami croon about a man who is sprung on her, but she really is having none of it. That, or he will have to part with a few (or lots!) of coins for her to ‘legeza.’
The video is colorful and entails scenes of her and Mejja circling around each other in dance. She grinds on him as he sings about her derriere and his bedroom prowess, in typical Mejja lyricism. She is flanked by her backup dancers in another scene, all dressed as tennis court cheerleaders.
Speaking of her birthday, the singer paid homage to herself in a post that has childhood pictures of her. “I am proud of myself and the far I have come and I wanna tell every young girl in the village, you can chase your dreams and make them a reality!!!!! Where you come from doesn’t define where you are going! I am the biggest believer in hardwork & changing my story that my kids will be proud of me,” she posted.
The not-so-subtle mentions of Amber Ray, Manzi wa Kibera and Sheryl Onyango are a clever move. The three are synonymous with their dancing social media videos, and could turn this into a viral dance.
