Missy Elliot’s 5 Grammys now backed up with an honorary Doctorate degree

In just four weeks, five-time Grammy awards winner, Missy Elliot will be inducted into the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame.

According to CNN, the event will take place on June 13, 2019, and the rapper will be ranked as the third most successful female to be inducted into that category. But that is not the only bag of goodies the singer has in hand.

On Saturday (10.05.2019), Missy Elliot was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Music degree from Berklee College of Music and anyone who has knows the elite music schools understands that this is a big deal. “This year’s honorary doctorate recipients are being recognized for their achievements and influences in music, and for their enduring global impact,” read the statement from the school.

Missy took to Instagram to share the new accolade, proudly showing off the Doctorate degree she received.

Melissa Arnette “Missy” Elliott, has had a music career spanning over three decades and with that lengthy period, the singer, songwriter, rapper and outstanding producer has managed to achieve so much including 5 Grammy awards, 6 studio albums including  the hugely successful ‘Miss E’, ‘Under Construction’ and ‘So Addictive,’ all going platinum with sales exceeding 30M and 2015’s Super Bowl performance alongside Katty Perry which had an audience capacity beyond 115M viewers.

The rapper’s musical prowess landed her on top 40 on the Billboard with hits like, ‘Work It’, ‘Lose Control’ and ‘Get Ur Freak On’.

Other graduates at the college included; rapper Alex Lacamoire and music legend and producer, Justine Timberlake who has sold over 32M albums worldwide and bagged numerous awards.  Several well-known personalities who have received doctorate music degrees from the institution include soul-singer Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, Carole King among others.
