Mesut Özil spreads Arsenal cheer to young Kenyan fans

Arsenal’s Mesut Özil has a heart of gold.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder made a kind gesture after news about a loyal young fan reached him, all thanks to the power of social media. The German player, who is known as one of the most talented acts today sent a signed shirt and a pair of boots to a young boy who was caught on camera caring for a herd of cattle in a makeshift Özil -numbered jersey.  The post capturing the young boy went viral, reaching the Arsenal footballer after being posted last year in early December 2018.

Now just about 3 months later, Özil has made the young herdsboy’s dream come true with a personal gift. He took to social media to share his excitement about being able to reach out to his young fan Lawrence. The image of the young boy in his brand new Öz-signed jersey is just heartwarming. The twosome could not look happier with their gift.

Özil also recently made headlines after Arsenal beat Manchester United 2-0 earlier this week. According to Talksport, “The Gunners leapfrogged United into fourth place with their 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Granit Xhaka and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. It’s also a sweet piece of revenge for Arsenal after the Red Devils knocked them out of the FA Cup in their own backyard in January.” It seems Özil could not resist celebrating the win, referencing United midfielder Lingard’s celebratory moonwalk dance when the two league giants last faced off.  Özil tweeted “Dancefloor huh? Superb performance! Brilliant result! Thank you Emirates Stadium. Proud to be a Gunner!”

As a major part of the top-tier football club, Özil is celebrated as an integral part of Arsenal since he joined during the 2012-2013 season. The German baller has been hailed for his agility and versatility and his most recent act of kindness goes to speak of his heart of gold too.

What would you do if you received a signed jersey from your favorite footballer?
