A mean spirited Facebook page aimed at tearing Lady Gaga down goes viral after the singer’s Oscar win.
Singer Lady Gaga’s journey to success has not been an easy one, after the pop star’s Oscar win, several Twitter users unearthed screenshots of a NewYork University (NYU) based Facebook group called “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous” (Stefani Germanotta is Gaga’s real name).
While it’s hard to believe that even Gaga was cyberbullied, we live in a world where cyberbullying is a huge problem. Social media users feel entitled and often go ahead to spell doom on someone’s career as they did to Gaga while she was an upcoming singer in university. But fortunately, the page never stopped the singer from reaching her goals.
According to a 2016 article by Public Radio International, The group was peppered with comments, vilifying the aspiring musician for being an “attention-whore.” Scores asked: “Who does she think she is?”
On Sunday, February 24th, the “Alejandro” took home the Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Original Song, thanks to her smash hit “Shallow” from ‘A Star Is Born’ featuring Hollywood hunk Bradley Cooper. It was the singer’s first Oscar and capped off a year in which she made her acting debut, won numerous awards for it, and started a Las Vegas residency.
Her win on Sunday also made her the first person ever to win a BAFTA, an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a Grammy in the same year.
The 32-year-old singer is known for her unconventionality, provocative work, and visual experimentation. She began performing as a teenager, singing at open mic nights and acting in school plays. She is famed for songs such as “Applause”, “Poker face” and “Just dance.”
