According to a report on Daily Nation Newspaper, CS Fred Matiang’i, “ordered universities to immediately withdraw a case against striking lecturers and commence talks.” The Inter-Public Universities Council Forum was appointed to mediate talks with the lecturers, represented by the University Academic Staff Union.
With rising tensions as students continue to stay out of the classroom due to the strike, seeking a resolution to the strike continues to be top of the national agenda. With a timeline put on the negotiations, the talks are due to end on February 28th, 2017.
Education Cabinet Secretary encouraged both parties to make headway with negotiations assuring the University Academic Staff Union of a counter-offer to be tabled on Wednesday 1st February.
