A man donated his frost-bitten toe to a hotel so they could serve it in a cocktail.
Former marine Nick Griffiths, 47, lost three of his toes last year after they were amputated following an extreme winter ultra-marathon in Canada last year and when a nurse joked that he should donate him to a nearby hotel which serves a cocktail which contains a human toe, Nick readily agreed.
The tootsies were given to the Downtown Hotel in Dawson City, Canada and used in their ‘Sourtoe Cocktail’ – which contains an array of liquors alongside a human toe.
Nick told the Daily Mail newspaper: “I’m pretty confident I’ll be the first person to have a Sourtoe cocktail with my own toe. It would be great if my daughters came too. Amy is 22 and Hannah is 18 so they’re both old enough to try it.
According to a report by Vice, “the infamous shot was invented sometime about 1971 and typically garners mixed reactions. While it’s good for a laugh from some, it’s completely revolting for others—one gastroenterologist told the New York Post, it was the “most disgusting thing” they’ve ever seen. Over the years scoundrels have eaten the toes, stolen the toes, and do all sorts of nefarious things to the toes. So, obviously, the hotel needs to keep a good stock of toes. ”
Hotel manager Adam Gerle added of the toes: “They are very hard to come by these days and this generous ‘toe-nation’ will help ensure the tradition continues.”
